What will it be like?
Counseling sessions can vary depending on each person’s needs and goals. I like to incorporate a variety of approaches which can include person-centered talk therapy, skill building, narrative therapy (how we look at our life story), animal assisted therapy with my dog Franklin, in-home counseling for pregnant or new moms, or EMDR. With teens, we often will play a game, draw, or do an activity – whatever helps with making a session more comfortable. It is my job to help direct the session, so if you are coming but aren’t sure where to start or what to talk about, don’t worry!
How often will I come?
Session frequency is all based upon a person’s preference. Generally speaking, coming weekly or every other week will result in faster progress.
What are in-home sessions like?
Moms, I’ve been there. Please don’t shower or tidy your home before an in-home session. If you need to feed your baby, feed your baby. If you need to change a diaper or run to the bathroom, please go for it. An in-home session is still a counseling session with the same goals as an in-office session would have, it just has more natural interruptions!
